Visitors

Yesterday we were getting ready to go to fitness when we heard a big noise. Miss Nielsen said it was thunder, but we knew that it was motorbikes! When we went outside there were lots of bikes sitting on the netball court. They are riding around New Zealand for white ribbon. They want people to be against violence towards women. The people looked a bit scary wearing lots of black leather, but we learned that leather keeps them safe just like their helmets do. Here are some pictures that Harrison took for us

Stickman

Conrad had fun today creating on the draw a stickman website. We have had some very interesting discussions about how to draw a sword and how to draw a key. There are lots of different ways to draw both.

Stickman

Today we played with the stickman website. It was lots of fun drawing our stickmen (and girls, and spongebobs). We had lots of good discussions about how to draw things differently to make them funny.

Duffy books day

We went to the hall. Adrian Kirk did some funny stuff. He juggles the balls on his hands and around his back. He does tricks through his hands too. He kept dropping balls. All the classes were there and they were laughing at him. He balanced a stick on his face with  a ball on it. He told us how to juggle. He told us to throw the balls in the air ad catch them. He told us that reading rocks. He told us that reading is important.
When we got back to class we got our Duffy books. We all got different Duffy books. Some people got the same book as someone else. They are cool. We had lots of fun this morning.

Japanese girls fan dance

Here are our girls doing their beautiful fan dance at the production. The boys ninja dance will follow very soon.

Questions

Thanks to our wonderful quad blogging friends we have some questions to answer, so here we go;
What kind of swords were you using? (Bailee) We made our swords out of poster board, paint, and glitter glue.
Where did you leearn the ninja moves? (Layne)  We practiced at school for 2 weeks to get all the moves right, our teacher helped us.
Did you have your production at school? (Laurel) We got to go to a real theatre for our production. It was very exciting, with real lights and a stage and dressing rooms. We don't even have a stage at our school so it was very special for us.
What kinds oof fans did you use in thefan dance? (Bailee) We made our fans ourselves from paper, crayons, and iceblock sticks. We laminated them to make them stay strong.
Were there lots of people at the production? Yes, the theatre had 314 seats. All of our friends and family were able to come watch us.
How many children in your class? We have 22 children in our class. We are all year ones, but some of us are 5 and some of us are 6 years old.
Do you learn Japanese at your school? We have been learning some words of Japanese in our classroom, but mostly at school we speak English and a little bit of Maori.

Thanks for all your questions. It is great to learn about people in other places.

Production

We enjoyed the production. Here are our photos. We are all friends together. (Kuku)
I like it because I did some things down in the arcade.(Conrad)
We had a great time together. We worked as a team (Chaylem)
I liked it because it gave me exercise (Amelia)
We had fun there because it was fun when we were dancing. (Maddison)
We had a changing room (Ngakau)

We were learning about Japan for the production. We made a fan dance and a ninja dance. We looked very good on the stage.

Today a superhero visited us. His name was Julian. He came to teach us about money. He doesnt want us to turn into a money muncher. This is what money munchers do. They eat through money because they spend so much. He was funny. He had a friend called Aroha. Lily was dressed up as Aroha.

Thank you ASB for sending him to us.

We have been writing descriptions of our parents

Wednesday, 25 May 2011

We are learning how to design new objects. This week we have been exploring the problem of what to do when we dont have a drink bottle at school. We tried making cups out of paper and tinfoil. There were a few problems with our designs and some of us got a little bit wet. If you have any ideas to help us then maybe you could leave us a message or write us a letter.

Some videos for you

We have been playing with a video camera at school. Here is a video of us at KiwiCan. Every time we go to KiwiCan we start the lesson like this. It is lots of fun. Sorry about the jumpy video, its hard to hold the camera and give high fives at the same time!

The second movie is of us playing our favourite game. (shhhh, don't tell the kids they are learning!) We are getting good at recognising the patterns on the dice and some of us can even count on from the biggest number.

School Picnic

On Friday we had the school picnic. We went to Anderson's Park. The whole school was there and lots of our families were there too.

There were lots of fun things to play on in the playground.

Bertie Budgie came to the picnic. He gave us all iceblocks. They tasted great. Bertie gave us hugs and high fives.

Lots of us got to go for a walk in the bush. We saw some huge trees that are taller than our school.
